5 Tips for Making the Perfect Fried Rice

Fried rice is a cooked rice dish that is stir-fried and mixed with other ingredients. It’s a party favourite and has overtime become a total necessity at Nigerian social gatherings. Fitfam Plus has culled 5 useful tips for making the perfect fried rice.

Use Broth or Season Your Parboiled Rice Base Thoroughly

When parboiling your rice, use broth or seasoned water. This will help add more flavour to the meal than when you use ordinary water.

Ensure You Don’t Overcook This Rice

The best way to parboil your rice is to bring it to a boil, reduce to the lowest heat and cook for about 20 minutes. This way you can avoid overcooking the rice and being left with a ‘soggy mash of rice’ when you are done cooking the meal.

Season Your Vegetables

This helps with the flavour and taste of your fried rice. However, be careful not to overdo it so you are not left with a salty or excessively seasoned meal.

Don’t Over Season with Curry

When trying to get that green or yellow colour for your fried rice, be careful not to over-season with curry and thyme. This could totally ruin the taste and flavour of your dish. Rather, than over-seasoning with curry and thyme, try adding special fried rice spices to help with the colour.

Mind the Quality of the Rice

The kind and brand of rice that you use matters; try to avoid using low quality rice to prepare this dish, if not, no matter the effort you put into cooking it perfectly, it just might not come out well.
